Mission: Make Cupcakes from Scratch.

Well, this weekend my daughter & I took on Mission Cupcake as shown on the MomAdvice blog. The cupcake recipe is one of The Farm Chick's ( I love their blog, check it out!!!). I had been wanting to try it for a while, so this was a great incentive. We put on our matching aprons, Naomi was so excited about this...and we got started...
We carefully followed the recipe, we took our time, we were having a lot of fun...until I checked in the oven to peek at our little masterpieces and this is what I found!!!

I am not sure what was the CAUSE of this disaster, it was either:

  1. Because I overfilled the cupcake pans...or

  2. It was because my husband put old, used oil back into the large vegetable oil container without marking it. He said that the old oil would have made them taste bad but not make them explode like this. But, I guess we will never know what happened...

    So, anyway...I went upstairs to pout & watch "25 Biggest Decorating Mistakes" that I had previously recorded on HGTV and my sweet husband remade the cupcake recipe with good oil (and I am sure he put a NORMAL amount of batter into the cupcake pans) and they turned out GREAT!

The cupcakes were so moist and delicious! We all love them... I don't think I have ever eaten such delicious, homemade cupcakes...



  1. Oh my word, that was soooo funny! That would so happen in my kitchen too. Glad you guys got the kinks worked out and enjoyed those cupcakes. They were truly the best cupcakes I have ever made.

  2. I just made the cupcakes and same thing happened to me. I used brand new oil so i think I overfilled them. I have another batch in now - I will see what happens.
